JIS G3303 BA T3 2.8/2.8 Tin Coated Coils ETP Tinplate Food Can Empty Cans For Packaging Food
1. Introduction
Tinplate: commonly known as tinplate, has good sealing, preservation, light resistance, robustness, corrosion resistance, non-toxic and has a unique metal decorative charm, is widely used in food packaging industry such as cans, beverages, military, instruments, electrical appliances and other industries. Among them, in the field of packaging, it belongs to the international common packaging varieties. Tin plating is also one of the important consumption areas of tin, accounting for 30% of all consumption (2010 data).
Tin mill products include electrolytic tinplate, and electrolytic chromium coated steel (also referred to as tin free steel or TFS), and Black Plate. Tinplate is a thin steel sheet coated by tin, while TFS is an electrolytic chrome plated steel consisting of a thin layer of chromium and a layer of chromium oxide deposited on the steel base. The coating gives both of them a beautiful, metallic luster as well as excellent properties in corrosion resistance and paintability.
Our food tinplate can offers a good source of iron for its users. Tinplate canned food, except few light color fruit and canned fruit, mainly adopts interior painted empty cans for improved corrosion resistance of containers. Under the electrochemical action of metal, a small quantity of iron dissolves out of enamel cans and exists as ferrous iron in the sealed canned food, ranging from 1ppm to 10 ppm, which is easy for people to absorb. Provided that there is 5ppm iron in every 350ml tinplate can, then each can of food can provides 1.75mg iron, which is about one tenth of 18mg daily iron intake by human body. In case of rich vitamin C contained in the canned fruit and vegetable juice, iron will be easier for assimilating. That is why this food tinplate can is so widely adopted for packaging food.
1. Properties
A. Tinplate is characterized by its thin gauge, which is between 0.13mm and 0.49mm.
B. Tinning of the tinplate is achieved in a continuous electrolytic process.
2. Advantages
In addition to thin gauge, the tinplate also boasts mechanical properties with a wide range from 230 to 620MPa. Hence, it suits the needs in multiple forming processes and various industries.
The tinplate is available in varied surface finishes, with three different levels of roughness.
Like other steel, tinplate is easy for recycling in line with environmental protection requirements.
Also, with high opacity, and excellent sealing property, tinplate provides ideal protection for food, beverage, and other substances when made into packaging containers.
The characteristics of the tin plate are largely determined by the characteristics of the tin.

4. Surface appearance
It is determined by the surface appearance of the steel base and whether the tin coating is soft melted.
Bright surface (B) : The original plate with a smooth surface with a very fine millstone pattern is coated with tin, and then the tin layer is soft melted to obtain a bright surface.
Rough surface (R) : The original plate with a certain directional grinding stone pattern surface is plated with tin, and then the tin layer is soft melted to obtain a shiny surface.
Silver surface (S) : The original plate with a rough and dull surface is tinned, and then the tin layer is soft melted to obtain a glossy surface.
Matte surface (M) : The matte surface is tinned on the original plate with a generally matte surface and then is not softenable.
5. Usage Precautions for ETP
Passivation types
Modern industrial tinplate is typically produced from cold-rolled, low carbon steel sheets coated on both sides with commercial pure tin. This combination integrates the robust strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, weldability, and aesthetic appeal provided by tin. Tinplate serves as a crucial material in numerous applications across industries. In the food sector, it is extensively used for manufacturing food cans and a variety of containers. Beyond food packaging, tinplate is also employed in the production of stamped products, packaging materials for non-food items such as aerosol cans, bottle caps, and beverage containers. Moreover, it finds versatile use in non-packaging applications including home appliances, toys, stationery, and engineering components.
Particularly suitable for use in the packaging industry, tinplate can also be applied in the following areas.
In the home: cake tins, gas canister components, etc
In the fast food restaurant: coffee tins, cola tins, etc
Electrical and electronic equipment: batteries, electrical components, etc
Automotive components: cylinder head gaskets, oil filters, etc
Building trade: false ceiling rails, space bars for double glazing, light reflectors, radiator fins, reinforced tape, etc
Offers coils and sheets, coil packed in a vertical form or a horizontal.
A label that indicates the manufacturing history is affixed to the outside of the packaging. In addition, a service card is contained inside.
