Printed Color Coated Steel and Aluminum Coil
Printed color coated plates offer decorative effects such as wood grain, brick grain, camouflage, and marble.
The printing process for color coated coils typically involves gravure printing. This method uses steel rollers laser-engraved with desired patterns to transfer ink onto the surface of the steel plate.
Initially, the substrate undergoes pre-treatment including degreasing, cleaning, and passivation. After this, a layer of matching color primer is applied to the steel plate surface. Depending on the application, primers may include polyester, polyurethane, and other coatings. After drying and curing the primer, ink is applied through printing. Printing complexity ranges from single color to multi-color patterns. Once the ink is dried and cured, a varnish coating follows, which can be polyester, High Durable Polyester (HDP), fluorocarbon PVDF, or other types.
For higher printing quality requirements, such as fluorocarbon printed color coated panels, a three-coating and three-baking process is used. This involves applying a polyurethane primer, followed by a layer of matching fluorocarbon topcoat, ink printing, and finally a coat of fluorocarbon varnish. The entire production process for printed color coated panels includes cooling, coiling, and shearing after drying and solidification of the coatings.
Key Characteristics of Color Coated Aluminum Coils
- Durability: Offers excellent resistance to corrosion, UV radiation, and weathering, making them suitable for outdoor applications.
- Lightweight: Aluminum's low density makes these coils ideal for applications where weight reduction is crucial, such as in transportation and aerospace industries.
- Aesthetic Appeal: Available in a wide range of colors and finishes, enhancing the visual appeal of buildings, vehicles, and consumer products.
- Formability: Easy to shape and fabricate, allowing for complex designs and applications in construction and manufacturing.
- Recyclability: Aluminum is fully recyclable, making color coated aluminum coils an environmentally friendly choice.
- Polyester (PE): Offers good adhesion, flexibility, and resistance to UV rays. It is cost-effective and suitable for general use.
- Silicon Modified Polyester (SMP): Provides better hardness, abrasion resistance, and heat resistance compared to PE. It also offers good color retention and gloss.
- High Durability Polyester (HDP): Known for excellent color retention, UV resistance, and overall durability. It is ideal for outdoor applications.
- Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF): Provides superior color retention, UV resistance, and durability. It is highly resistant to solvents and chemicals, making it suitable for harsh environments.
Aluminum coils come in several grades, each with unique characteristics that make them suitable for different applications:
1. Pure Aluminum (AA1100):
- Characteristics: Soft, excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity.
- Applications: Used in applications where good workability is required, such as chemical and food processing industries, and architectural applications.
2. Aluminum-Manganese Alloy (AA3003):
- Characteristics: Good corrosion resistance, moderate strength, excellent workability.
- Applications: Used in cooking utensils, heat exchangers, and chemical equipment.
3. Aluminum-Manganese-Magnesium Alloy (AA3004):
- Characteristics: Higher strength than AA3003, good formability, and corrosion resistance.
- Applications: Commonly used in the manufacturing of beverage cans, building products, and storage tanks.
4. Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy (AA3105):
- Characteristics: Good corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability.
- Applications: Used in residential siding, mobile homes, and rain-carrying goods.
5. Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy (AA5052):
- Characteristics: Excellent corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength, good weldability.
- Applications: Used in marine environments, fuel tanks, and pressure vessels.
6. Aluminum-Zinc Alloy (AA6061):
- Characteristics: High strength, good corrosion resistance, good machinability.
- Applications: Used in structural applications, automotive parts, and aerospace components.
