Tin-plated, commonly known as tinplate, refers to cold rolled mild steel sheet or strip coated with a thin layer of metallic tin on both sides obtained through continuous tin-plating operations, which is corrosion-resistant, high-strength, well-moulded, easy to weld, non-toxic, and aesthetically pleasing. It is called tin-plated steel strip in roll form and tin-plated steel plate when cut into sheets.
Standard
ETP orders are placed with Baosteel in accordance with Q/BQB 450-2009 standard which uses in a non-equivalent to JIS G 3303:2008, DIN EN 10202:2001, EN 10203 standards.
Tin-plated properties
Outstanding corrosion resistance: By selecting the appropriate coating thickness, the corrosion resistance requirements of different contents can be met.
Superior finishing properties: can be printed with a variety of paints and inks
Excellent weldability: various cans can be manufactured by welding (including brazing).
Great processability and strength: Selection of appropriate tempering grade can meet the processing requirements and strength after moulding.
Bright appearance: the surface of tin-plated sheet has bright metallic luster, and products with different surface roughness can be obtained by selecting substrates with different surface conditions.
Uses of Tinplate:
Tinplate is widely used in various industries due to its unique properties. Some of the major applications of tinplate include:
1. Food and Beverage Cans:
- Canned Food: The most common use of tinplate is in the food canning industry. It is used to manufacture food cans, such as those for vegetables, soups, fruits, and meat. The tinplate coating helps preserve the contents by providing a barrier to air, light, and moisture, which can cause spoilage.
- Beverage Cans: Tinplate is used to make beverage cans, including soda cans and beer cans, because it is lightweight, durable, and has good resistance to corrosion.
- Aerosol Cans: The production of aerosol cans (for products like deodorants, paints, or air fresheners) also uses tinplate due to its excellent formability and ability to withstand pressure.
2. Packaging Materials:
- Packaging for Consumer Goods: In addition to food and beverages, tinplate is used in packaging for a variety of products such as pet food cans, paint cans, and pharmaceutical packaging. Its smooth surface is suitable for printing logos, labels, and product information.
- Tea and Coffee Cans: Tinplate is often used to make containers for tea and coffee due to its ability to protect the contents from moisture, light, and air, which can degrade the product.
3. Electrical and Electronics:
- Battery Cans: The production of battery containers (especially for small household batteries) often utilizes tinplate due to its excellent formability and corrosion resistance.
- Electronic Components: Tinplate is sometimes used in electronic housings or components that require a protective coating against environmental factors.
4. Automotive:
- Automotive Components: Some automotive parts, especially those requiring both strength and corrosion resistance, use tinplate. For example, it can be used in parts like fuel tanks, auto body parts, and motor components.
5. Decorative Applications:
- Tin Signs: Tinplate is used in the creation of decorative signs, especially vintage-style advertisements and posters.
- Tins for Gifts and Collectibles: High-quality tinplate is used for making collectible tins, often used for packaging candies, cookies, and gift items.
6. Construction and Engineering:
- Roofing and Siding: Tinplate was historically used in roofing and siding materials, although it has largely been replaced by other materials like aluminum and steel. However, it is still used in some areas for its aesthetic appearance and historical value.
