Hot-dip galvanised steel coil (GI) is made by passing a fully hardened steel sheet, which has undergone a pickling and rolling process, through a zinc pot, thereby coating the surface with a zinc film. Due to the properties of zinc, it offers excellent corrosion resistance, paintability and workability. Typically, the process and specifications for hot-dip galvanised steel sheet and galvanised steel coil are essentially the same.
Characteristics and Benefits of Galvanized Steel
Galvanized steel is mild steel coated with a layer of zinc. The zinc coating offers cathodic protection to the underlying steel, meaning that if the surface is damaged, the zinc will corrode before the steel does, thereby protecting it from corrosion. Galvanized steel is extensively used in the building sector, automotive industry, agriculture, and other areas where steel needs protection from corrosion.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing Process (HDG)
Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG) is a process where zinc bonds to steel at the molecular level to produce a four-layer corrosion-resistant finish. The first three layers consist of zinc-iron alloy layers that are actually harder than the base steel. The fourth, or top layer, is pure zinc. This multi-layered structure ensures long-lasting durability and protection against corrosion.

Main characteristics of galvanised steel
Corrosion protection: 13 years for heavy industrial areas, 50 years for marine, 104 years for suburban areas and 30 years for urban areas.
Inexpensive: Hot dip galvanising costs less than other coatings.
